Dear Parents of Second Grade Students:

The Guardian Angels Parish Community invites you and your child to participate in the preparation of the Sacraments of Reconciliation and Eucharist in the year 2008.  The first celebrations of these two sacraments are a very precious time in your child’s life.  At Baptism, as parents you accepted the responsibility of “raising your child in the practice of the faith”.  Now it is time to continue the steps of enriching your child’s faith practice.

There will be one parent only meeting on Saturday, November 22, 2008.  There will be one parent/child session for First Reconciliation on Saturday, December 6, 2008.  Finally on Saturday, December 13, 2008 there will be a Communal Reconciliation of the Sacrament.

Then there will be three parent/child sessions for First Eucharist on Saturday, February 28, March 28, and April 18, 2009.  This year we will be offering two different weekends for the Sacrament of Eucharist;  On April 25 / 26 2009 during the 5:00pm, 8:00am, or 10:00am Masses or May 3, 2009 at a 2:00pm Mass.

It is important your child and at least one parent come to the learning sessions.  Godparents are always invited to come, as well.  Please set aside the time now, and arrange for this to be a special time with your child – a true focus on the candidate, without distractions. The dynamics are such that you simply must be there. We are not equipped for other children at these sessions.

Everyone is expected to be at all the sessions. You child must attend these sessions in order to be eligible for the celebration of the sacraments. These meetings cannot be made up.  All sessions will be in St. Francis Hall or the Church at 9:00am and run for an hour and half.

In addition to the weekend parent student sessions, your child must be enrolled and participating in an approved religious education program (Guardian Angels School or Guardian Angels Faith Formation).  Each family is also asked to participate in one family service project. Bringing up the gifts at a Guardian Angels weekend Mass during their second grade year is required(see attached).  You will also be receiving homework for you and your child via email throughout the year.

We look forward to helping you on this faith journey.

God Bless You!

Ms. Hritz, Ms. Klinker
