Mrs. Theresa O'Donnell          updated for week of 5/23/08
6th Grade   We have had a fun week of going over all American composer projects and listening to examples of work from each one.  Wednesday we will have a review and Friday will be a test over the composers.  They really should start working on studying for the test now.

7th Grade has been listening and learning about different styles of music.  We listened to examples of Scarborough Fair in several different time periods.  Today we talked about how composers use folk songs as part of their music and create variations on them.  We listened to Copland's Applachain Spring and Ives Variation on America.  Next week we will look to see how Brahms used German Folk Songs to create Academic Overture.

8th Grade is studying African Music right now.  We compared how American Jazz Music and Senegal Field Music are the same and then compared the rhythms of jazz, rock and latin music.  We then listened to how these styles are now influencing African popular music.

8th Grade Choir will meet one last time on May 30th 8 a.m..
